  Termination Information

When a property is two or more quarters behind this property is then subject to termination of service. When the sewer is terminated on the property a large plug is inserted into the sewer vent and inflated. This plug will not allow any outgoing sewer or water to pass into the sewer lines. Ultimately a backup will accumulate within the home. When the water is terminated the water is shut off, either at the curb stop or in the meter pit. A small barrel is also inserted into the incoming water lines to eliminate any water passing into the home. A termination fee of $160.00 will be charged to the account. In order to restore the service the account would then have to be paid in full for both the water and sewer. Example: If the sewer account is behind and the service is terminated, but the water is showing a current charge due though not delinquent, both the water and sewer (including the termination fee) would have to be paid in order to restore service. The MUA does not charge a fee to restore service. One question many owners have is, “Can my water be terminated for a delinquent sewer account?” Per the Municipalities and Counties (index 40:14B-44) the answer is yes. The MUA can terminate the water if the sewer account is delinquent. The MUA office is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm to answer any billing questions. The accounts can also be viewed at ltmua.org where a payment is made possible with a Master Card or an E-Check. Terminations are ongoing throughout the year.

Discolored Water

  • If discolored water occurs, simply run the cold water for a few minutes until it clears. This will allow the sediment to work its way through your pipes.

  • Check for discolored water before using the washing machine or dishwasher. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap before doing laundry or running the dishwasher. NOTE: If your laundry becomes stained, DO NOT PUT YOUR LAUNDRY IN THE DRYER. Rewash clothes immediately using  a rust remover. We have a limited supply of rust remover at the office where you pay your utility bill.  Most rust removers can also be used on stained fixtures.

  • In some cases, slight discoloration might linger for a few hours. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water and does not affect water quality. No health hazards are associated with discolored water from hydrant flushing or water main repairs.

  • If water pressure or water volume seems low after flushing or water main repair, check your faucet screens for trapped particles.
